What's New at the DC Bar

Here are a few things that have happened recently.

We got to go to the Islands for Christmas this year!!

This is my "Zac Brown - Toes"  album cover idea.

Ah - "Toes in the water, ass in the sand, not a care in the world, cold beer in my hand..."

We have just made arrangements for Swimming and Rock Climbing School.

This too is included in a Guest Ranch stay package.

Our beautiful Pinedale Aquatic Center

It's winter again in Wyoming -  We are into the Snow Mobile Season!

Come visit.

Alex and Dave help John Feed the Elk - the little guys run in for a meal.

The big bulls come in last.

Tim Feeds the Moose at the Ranch

How do we deal with all that snow and cold?  We're thinking of our upcoming trip to the Caribbean.

Alex, Dave and myself (Tim) are getting things moving on our Caribbean fishing location.

There's nobody here!  The fishing, snorkling, diving, sitting on the beach and drinking beer are all good down here.  Maybe next winter we can get some folks down here to fish - or to learn how to bone fish.  The Tarpon above was caught on a fly rod -  I caught 3 by fly rod and 5 by spinning rod.  It's not unusual to find permit, bonefish and tarpon.  We even have a top guide lined up for you.  Nick from England.  If you want to set up a trip with Nick - just let me know and I'll get you set up with him.

Here is Nick with the Snook I caught on a Yellow and Green Deceiver.  (We ate this one - oh my they are good!)  8 weight fly rod.  Can you imagine actually having someone who can speak english - and is a good instructor - to help teach you the tricks of flats fishing!  I learned more on my trips with Nick than I had over several years of dealing with those other guides.  We've got the equipment too (no need to mortgage your house to get started.)    Right now we are no frills, low priced - but lots of fun.

I picked up the bill for diner for 4,  we supplied the fish - the resturant cleaned and cooked it - 4 margaritas, salads, Snook fixed 4 different ways, vegetable, spanish rice, tortillas -  all for under $30.00 - total      !! No Montazoma Revenge here !!   Also, the smallest bone fish I've caught to date  -  there are bigger ones of course!

Back to a winter picture -   aaarrrrggghhhhh

We will be opening the new dinning room and kitchen the spring of 2009.

It's done!!!!

Dan Stewart came out again this summer - 2008- and milled a bunch more wood for us.  I wonder what we'll build in 2009.

We had a visit from Judy Gale.

She was born on the ranch back in June 1938.  Her mother, Audrey, was a daughter of Martin Skinner the ranch cook.

She was born 2 months premature. There was one of those late snow storms and it took some time for someone from the ranch to get into town to get the doctor.

(Bert with dog and Judy in a blanket given by the Dupont Sisters - She still has that blanket)

The doctor was pretty busy and was more than convinced that there was no way a 2 month premature baby could still be alive.  Rather than going up to the ranch he filled out a death certificate and sent it back to the ranch.  For more history- check out the History Page.

Great fishing again this year.  On one trip we needed to make a "Cowboy Repair" on a brand new pair of Orvis Wadding boots. Horse Shoeing Nails work!  These boots blew out on day one - and the nails held the full trip.

Tim and Alex pack skis in to ski Tosi Peak behind the Ranch

Bone Fishing in Mexico

Jilda and I went to Mexico for vacation once again. I got her a nice grass hut on the beach in the middle of no where. She lounged and sunned on the beach while I took off searching for Bone Fish. Jilda read "A salty Piece of Land" by Jimmy Buffet and it seems we followed the same route through Mexico into Belize.

After several days of fishing these "torpedoes"it takes a toll on a poor mountain boy. These guys hit the fly and blast off in the other direction. They run you way into the backing - several times each catch. Your arm gets sore but you just can't quit.

Never fear though, on those days that you do not fish, it is custom to take siesta. It is a great tradition that would be nice to incorporate back into Wyoming life. I'm the one in the middle

Move over Jimmy Buffet - another cowboy on the ocean.

Rick Bodin, (his wife / my cousin) Kim and Scott Smith came down and joined us. Rick, Scott and I started Bridger Wilderness Outfitters 25 years ago. We had a great time.

Mules and Turkeys

In April I head off to Missouri on a Mule buying trip and combine it with a Turkey hunt. I met up with some good friends and hunting clients at Jack Mann's farm in northeast Missouri.

I then head into central Missouri and hunt Turkey with one of Missouri's top guides Russell Patrick. These hunts are filmed by Joe White from Mossy Oak. This years hunt will be shown on the Mossy Oak program. We got some great footage - and I didn't screw it up this year.

I now have 8 new baby mules along with 7 baby horses. This last year Stephanie and Art worked them all and we were able to bring 6 of the mules online as workers this past year. The horses were all topped off, but we did not send any to work. In 2007 we should have all of these online. Get ready for -Mules; Alvin, Bonnie, Clyde, Dixie, Gladys, Leroy, Rusty, and Tom. The Horses; Apache, Kip, Mister, Ranger, Red Cloud, Scout, and War Paint.

THE NEW BARN

The new barn is two story and about 60 feet by 30 feet. Initially we will build a new dinning hall and kitchen into the front portion. This will allow us to fix up Woody's cabin our current dinning cabin. The back portion will become our tack and saddle barn. The upper level will be built for housing. I hope to get this online this year. We decided to go with a framed construction for the barn, but with the use of our log mill, we hope to get that exterior log cabin look.

The Fire of 2006

The fire started during a lightning storm on June 28th. The USFS decided not to fight this fire so it burned all summer. This "Jim Creek Fire" rolled around in the valley in front of the Three Sisters for most of the time but then started expanding both to the North and South. There wasn't a lot of rain so this fire burned into September. They guesstimate that it burned 4,000 acres during the summer.

This is the view from the deck on Wind River Lodge.
